What is a one-rep max (1RM)?
1RM stands for one rep max: the heaviest weight you can lift for one clean rep of an exercise. It is the most widely used measure of strength.
What is the difference between Epley and Brzycki?
Epley: 1RM = weight × (1 + reps/30). Brzycki: 1RM = weight × 36 / (37 − reps). Both estimate from the weight and reps you completed; lower reps give closer results and estimates become less accurate above 10 reps.
Why estimate instead of testing a real max?
Max-effort singles carry injury risk and need full recovery and a spotter. Estimating from a 3-10 rep set is safe and usually within about 5%, which is enough for periodized training.
What if the plates cannot load the exact weight?
When the target is not a multiple of the smallest plate, the tool shows the closest loadable weight and the difference. When in doubt, choose the slightly lighter option to avoid overloading.
